I don't think I have a favorite director

I don't think I have a favorite director. This is kind of a big deal for me, because I tend to have a favorite everything, particularly when it comes to pop culture and entertainment. Pride & Prejudice (2005) is hands down my favorite movie. Hans Zimmer is my favorite composer, Florence Pugh and Kiera Knightley are my favorite actresses, I love any movie that Pedro Pascal and Andrew Garfield are a part of, and I decided that Revenge of the Sith was my favorite Star Wars movie the moment after I finished watching it for the first time as a kid.

There are so many directors that have made movies I absolutely adore. Joe Wright directed both Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, both movies beautifully written, shot, and cast, with near perfect soundtracks. Wes Anderson has made two of the most (lovingly!) quirky and odd films I have ever seen, with Fantastic Mr. Fox and the Grand Budapest Hotel. Greta Gerwig has so beautifully captured womanhood and many aspects of what it is like to grow up through both Lady Bird and Barbie.

But despite all that - I cannot confidently say that I have a favorite director. There are so directors that have made films that stood out to me and made me want to watch other movies they have been a part of, but no specific director stands out as my absolute favorite.

I believe it boils down to the creative differences that every director has. That's what makes film such a beautiful medium for storytelling - the unique, creative, and fascinating ways that writers and directors choose to tell the story they are trying to share. Every director brings such a unique perspective to their films, in the different writers and producers they work with, the actors they choose to cast, the cinematographers, lighting crews, craft services, stunt performers, and truly every single person that is a part of the filmmaking process.

And that's the joy of cinema!
